    • What measures are Puerto Rico and the Resort taking regarding Zika?
      • You have likely heard about Zika cases being reported throughout the Western Hemisphere, and specifically the Caribbean. We must emphasize there is very little need for concern for most travelers. Puerto Rico has implemented a comprehensive program to protect its nearly four million residents and five million annual visitors. The Puerto Rico Department of Health is working in close collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure a united front against Zika.

We are thrilled to share the news that the 2016 Zika epidemic is over, as declared by the Puerto Rico Department of Health (PRHD) in a press release on Monday, June 5, 2017 PRDH_Press_Release_Close_of_Epidemic_Peak_5.June.2017

El Conquistador Resort is located at the Northeastern tip of Puerto Rico and is situated on a 300 foot bluff which overlooks the converging waters of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean and benefits from steady winds from the East, North East and South East. This steady wind flow allows for a comfortable environment which prevents mosquitoes from being an issue at the resort and our private Palomino Island. As a standard operating procedure throughout the year, the resort does fog for mosquitoes throughout the property and works to ensure that there is no standing water where insects can develop.

As with any travel to warm climate locations, we recommend using sunblock and insect repellent while enjoying the outdoors and wearing appropriate clothing when enjoying Puerto Rico especially during times when mosquitoes are most prevalent. Additionally, we recommend that you do not leave your balcony doors open throughout the night; not only will the air conditioning automatically shut-off when the doors are open but keeping them closed will prevent any insects from entering your accommodations.
